The owner of the rare and stunning Iso Grifo 1971, shares with us a little bit of history on the magnificent car that will Run the Runway at Sound of Speed 2018
A total 17 IR8 series two GM powered Grifo’s were made between 1970 and 72, eleven of which had the 5.7 litre engine the remainder was 5.3. My car has the larger capacity and was the only RH drive one built with the ZF 5 speed transmission.
Finished in Champagne Yellow, the car was exhibited by the factory for the 1971 Earls Court show.
I purchased it in late 1975, although only four years old there were signs of corrosion already starting to show. I ran it for two years and then put it into storage.
I spent nearly 30 years or so, as time permitted restoring the car (too much else getting in the way) and finished the project about 2004.
I have taken it to Le Mans several times; it has been featured in most classic car magazines over the years and is used on nice days,
The history of Iso Rivolta car production can be found on the internet. Iso’s first vehicle was the Isetta bubble car!
